Working together to make every voice count
London Voter Registration Week is part of the GLA’s Civic and Democratic Participation Programme, which supports Londoners to have their say on the issues that affect them, and engage with democracy. Through a growing coalition of partners, we work year-round to help people understand how democracy works and make their voices heard.
London continues to face significant inequalities in voter registration and democratic participation. Some communities remain much less likely to be registered to vote than others, meaning their voices are less likely to be represented in decisions that affect their lives.
YouGov polling (January 2025) commissioned by the GLA found that:
- Only 62.3% of 18–24-year-olds in London are registered to vote, compared with 96.6% of those aged 65 and over.
- Only 82.9% of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Londoners are registered to vote, compared with 90.1% of white Londoners.
- Registration rates are lower among private and social renters than among homeowners.
- Only 73.8% of Londoners born outside the UK are registered to vote
These figures highlight why coordinated action to increase voter registration remains so important.
A tried and tested model
London Voter Registration Week succeeds because of the collective efforts of organisations, institutions and individuals across the capital. Last year's campaign demonstrated the impact that can be achieved when London comes together.
During LVRW 2025:
- Nearly 25,000 Londoners registered to vote, representing a 4% increase on the previous week.
- More than 5,800 young people registered to vote, an 8% increase.

Shaped by young Londoners
Our campaign has been informed by conversations with young Londoners themselves.
In June 2026, the GLA and Shout Out UK held focus groups with young Londoners to better understand their experiences of voting and democratic participation. Participants spoke about feelings of disillusionment, uncertainty about whether their voices make a difference, and the importance of clear, practical information about how democracy works.
Young people told us they wanted accessible resources, step-by-step guidance, short videos and infographics, as well as a clearer explanation of why voting matters and how it connects to issues that affect their everyday lives.
These insights have directly influenced the design and messaging of this year's campaign.
How you can get involved
To help organisations get involved, we've developed a new suite of resources available through the GLA Democracy Hub.
We are encouraging organisations and individuals across London to:
- Share campaign resources online and in community settings.
- Encourage eligible Londoners to register to vote and remind people to register again if they have changed address, nationality or name.
- Use the Voter Registration Toolkit to run voter registration activities.
- Amplify campaign content using #NoVoteNoVoice and #LVRW2026.

London Voter Registration Week is about more than registration numbers. It is about helping people understand their democratic rights, increasing participation in public life and ensuring more Londoners can have their say on the issues that affect them.
