London comes together to mark the seventh annual London Voter Registration Week

The Greater London Authority and Shout Out UK are launching the seventh annual London Voter Registration Week (LVRW), taking place between 15–21 September.

  • Civil society organisations and education institutions across the capital are joining together to support this annual voter registration campaign.
  • LVRW is part of a year-round effort to increase participation in democracy for London’s most underrepresented and under-registered communities.
  • London still has lower voter registration rates compared with the rest of England, despite seeing the highest increase in rates among different types of local authority area1, since the launch of LVRW in 2019.

Co-designed with Londoners from most under-registered and underrepresented communities, LVRW is part of a year-round push to support more people to understand and use their democratic rights. The campaign is delivered with a broad coalition, including civil society organisations and education institutions across the capital, and coordinated with local councils.

Through a mix of social media outreach and face-to-face engagement in schools and colleges, the campaign helps raise awareness about who can register and how to do it. This includes tailored information for different communities, such as the voting rights of Commonwealth and EU Londoners, how to register if you have no fixed address and how to register anonymously if you are concerned about appearing on the electoral register.

Three in 10 young Londoners (aged 16-24) are not registered to vote2, with other under-registered groups including Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic and migrant Londoners - including Commonwealth and EU Londoners - and social and private renters3. Many of these Londoners are also Deaf and disabled and on low incomes.

The campaign is designed to be inclusive and accessible, with resources available in Easy Read format and 16 community languages, including British Sign Language. Londoners will also have access to the GLA Democracy WhatsApp chatbot (+44 7908 820136) and a verified #NoVoteNoVoice WhatsApp channel that will help navigate recent voting changes, answer frequently asked questions, and point to the GLA Political Literacy resources.

Matteo Bergamini MBE, CEO / Founder, Shout Out UK: “As we gear up for the seventh annual London Voter Registration Week, the capital’s flagship campaign to help Londoners register to vote, we mark a crucial moment in our democratic journey. With the government considering the implications of lowering the voting age to 16, it is more important than ever to ensure this vital work continues, giving the next generation the tools to access and exercise their civic and democratic rights. Join us this London Voter Registration Week 2025, and beyond, in promoting civic and democratic engagement across our city! #NoVoteNoVoice”
